Consumer Complaints
If you have been unable to resolve a problem with a dealership or if you believe the salesperson or dealership has acted illegally, you may file a Consumer Complaint.
Consumer Compensation Fund
For dealerships that are no longer in business, compensation may be available from the Motor Dealer Customer Compensation Fund. Financial losses as a result of the purchase, lease or consignment sale of a motor vehicle from a licensed BC motor dealer and not resolved through the complaint process, may also be eligible.
Quick Tips Before You Buy
- Know your financial limit
- Research vehicle features, quality and prices
- Go with someone who knows vehicles and contracts
- There is no need to stay or purchase if you feel pressured
- Understand the terms of any deposit you leave
- Test drive for at least 30 minutes and check all the features
- Get a used vehicle inspection or a copy of an inspection report before you buy
- Get a used vehicle history report or a copy of a vehicle history report before you buy
- Get any promises or extras in writing
- Only sign a contract you have read and really understand
- Get a copy of every document you sign and keep it in your records
- There is no return policy once you sign
